1. BUILDING CONNECTIONS AND COLLABORATION

Leadership isn’t about being the boss—it’s about guiding, supporting, and bringing people together toward a shared goal. A great leader doesn’t just give orders; they inspire trust and create an environment where everyone feels valued.

Communication is the tool that makes leadership work. It’s not just about talking—it’s about truly listening, understanding, and making sure no one is left out. When communication is clear, people feel heard, ideas flow, and teams grow stronger.

But leadership and communication alone aren’t enough. Real success comes from connections and collaboration—working together, learning from each other, and combining strengths to achieve something greater. Just like a puzzle, every person has a piece to contribute.

In this chapter, we’ll explore how to lead with purpose, communicate with impact, and build strong, lasting connections that turn individual efforts into unstoppable teamwork.

1.1. Definition and main characteristics of social networks

A social network is an interactive Internet structure (website) that unites a certain group of members with common interests, who create the content of a specific website and communicate with each other virtually, using the automated means of a specific website. Social (Internet) networks are the recently actively developing part of the Internet, which can include both simple discussion forums and complex social and (or) commercial Internet projects.

1.2. Social networks and apps

Larger social networks and chat and messaging apps provide the number of monthly active users, but the number of daily active users is increasingly published. Other niche networks and apps only provide the number of unique visitors or registered users, because they simply do not have many. Currently, there are around 19 social networks, 8 internet telephony and messaging apps and 8 blogging platforms in the world.

1.4. Social networks - benefits and harm

Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter are social networks without which many young people can no longer imagine their lives. Older people - us, our parents - are also increasingly starting to use it and enjoy the benefits of these networks. However, at the same time, more and more research is being done and scientists are becoming more and more interested in not only the benefits of social networks, but also the harm. Perhaps the most research has been done with the Facebook social network. There are many pluses, such as the ability to see your friends from all over the world and keep in touch with them. Also the possibility to pick up and write to them at any time when you are sick, unable to leave the house or just miss your significant other. We can share our moments through photos, share all kinds of messages, our thoughts and be available all over the world. It is indeed a wonderful thing. However, we are probably not the only ones who are starting to notice the not-so-beautiful side of these social communication tools.

1.5. Social Media Etiquette

According to research data from CVbankas.lt approximately 70% of employees currently search for information about employers or clients online, compared to 45% a few years ago. Employees also believe that some employers seek information about current or potential employees online. Over the past two years, this belief has grown—currently, 35% of employees state that they know for sure that employers research them online, and another 48% think that some employers do so occasionally.

The study highlights that about 80% of employees now restrict what they share on social media, compared to 50% two years ago. It is time to move away from the perception that social media is purely for personal entertainment where one can post or share any content.

Positive information to share:

Be mindful and respectful when commenting on posts or photos. Avoid offensive remarks – if unsure, it’s better to refrain from commenting altogether.

In essence, adhering to digital etiquette is crucial. Positive and professional online behavior reflects well on one’s character and reputation in the digital age.
