3. Managing your desktop and icons in the Windows operating system. Changing computer settings

The Windows desktop is the view you see when you boot the operating system. The appearance of the desktop depends on the version of the operating system you are using. On the desktop, you may find icons for various applications, files or shortcuts. These icons appear when you install applications or when you load various files, folders or shortcuts onto the desktop.

You can change all the basic settings of your computer (desktop, date, time, etc.) in the Control Panel of your computer. For a description of how to manage your desktop and how to change your preferences, see this section.
